Topeka defeats Jr. Blues 1-0 on late third-period powerplay goal

Drew Karioflies and the Topeka RoadRunners sent the Kansas Expo' visiting Springfield Junior Blues back home to Illinois on Saturday night following a 1-0 win in a North American Hockey League regular season contest.

At the 16:03 mark of the third and final period, with just under four minutes remaining, Karioflies scored a power play goal on an assist from Tyler Poulsen--scoring not only the single-lone goal in the game, but also after a scoreless drought in the game of just over forty-six minutes.

The Junior Blues played a relentless game with a tremendous effort on Saturday, even with the final score indicating the fact that they were shut out on all twenty-two shots on net.

RoadRunners' starting goalie Spencer Viele recorded the win and the shutout between the pipes on Saturday, and continued his ownage over our very own Junior Blues. Springfield goalie Ryan Kellenberger, who backed-up last night's starter Matt Leon, saved 34-of-35 shots from Topeka--and despite being charged with the loss, it was his best performance on the season, and is a performance that hopefully he can build on for the remainder of this season.

The RoadRunners out shot Springfield 35-to-24 on the night, and with the win, Topeka improved there overall record on the season through fourteen games to 10-2-2, with a total of 22 points--good enough to have them tied for the South division lead with Texas.

Springfield on the other hand, with the loss, had their record overall on the season fall to 4-8-2, with ten points, which is good enough for seventh place in the North division--being twelve points behind Jamestown for first place.

Following a weekend in which the Junior Blues split the two games on the road in Topeka at one win each, will now head back home for two games next weekend starting on Friday night as they will play host to Janesville. Both games will drop the puck at 7:05 pm inside the Nelson Center.
